Incorporated into 1975 Hochsauerlandkreis

Arnsberg.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on October 31, 1963.

The arms show the eagle of the counts of Arnsberg, with an escutcheon with the arms of the diocese of Köln. The county of Arnsberg was a semi-independent state from the 11th century until 1368. The colours used in these arms are the original colours, the city of Arnsberg uses different colours. From 1386 until 1802 the county belonged to the archbishops of K&oum;ln. In 1824 the city of Warstein was incorporated into the county. Warstein also got city rights from the archbishops of Köln.
