Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
BERCHTESGADENER LAND(BGL)
State : Bayern
Additions : 1973 Berchtesgaden, Laufen
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on May 29, 1973.
The arms combine the keys from the arms of the former district of Berchtesgaden, with the lion of Salzburg. The former district Laufen was ruled for a long time by the bishops of Salzburg. The base shows the arms of Bayern, as the area around Bad Reichenhall belongs to the oldest parts of Bayern.
Literature : Linder and Olzog, 1996.
