KRAIBURG AM INN

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Mühldorf am Inn

Wappen von Kraiburg am Inn

Official blazon

  • (de) In Blau eine goldene Krone.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on October 3, 1972.

The oldest known seal of the town dates from 1493 and shows a gonfanon (or banner). The gonfanon, the symbol of the Counts of Tübingen, was used by the Counts of Werdenberg-Sargans, who were related to the Counts of Tübingen and who owned the town at the time. In 1259 Duke Heinrich of Niederbayern had already acquired the town, but the old symbol remained in use. In the 16th century the origin of the symbol was lost and it gradually was changed into a comb. In the late 16th century the comb was replaced by the crown, most likely as a symbol for the (supposedly but incorrect) old name of Kronburg (Krone=crown). The colours are known since 1562.
