Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on August 21, 2003.
The chief shows the cross of the Order of Santiago, as the village historically was a possession of the order. The two corn cobs symbolis ethe agricultural character of the municipality.
The windmill blades are a symbol for the large windmill in the town, a typical landmark. The wavy base symbolises the Odeceixe river as well as the Atlantic Ocean.
