SANKT GOARSHAUSEN
State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Rhein-Lahn Kreis (until 1969 Loreleykreis)
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandsgemeinde Loreley
Additions : 1969 Wellmich
German | Im von Gold und Blau geteilten Schild oben ein herschauender, blaubewehrter roter Löwe, unten zwischen drei goldenen Lilien ein goldener Sparren.
Origin/meaningThe arms were granted in 1906. The arms already appear on the oldest known seal of the city, known since 1380. The upper half shows a lion, derived from the arms of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen, who acquired the area in 1300. They also granted the city rights in 1324. The meaning and origin of the lower half, a pattern, similar to other cities in the County of Katzenelnbogen, is not known.
