Additions : 1972 Brachstadt; Donaumünster, Erlingshofen, Oppertshofen, Zusum-Rettingen (partly)
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on April 11, 1983.
The arms show a letter K taken from the arms of the Kaisheim Abbey, as the abbey had many possessions in the area from 1269-1803. The unicorn has been used on the local seal of Tapfheim since the 16th century. Both symbols were already used by the municipality in the previous arms (see below).
The cross is derived from the arms of the Counts of Oettingen, who also had some possessions in the municipality. The cross in the circle refers to the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Donauwörth, which had possessions in Donaumünster and Zusum-Rettingen. The colours refer to two other entities that owned part of the area, the State of Augsburg and the St. Ulrich and Afra monasteries in Augsburg.
The previous arms were granted on ?? and howed the letter K and the unicorn.
