Origin/meaning

The arms were designed in 1932 and confirmed on January 12, 1994.

The upper part shows a stork holding a fish. These figures symbolise the fact that the town is a former fishing village. The lower half shows an anvil and two scythes, both symbolising the steel industry in the town.
