Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted in 1923 and granted in 1933.

The arms indicate the fact that in 1607 a glass factory was founded in Schmalenbuche, now part of Neuhaus. These industries were of great importance for the city afterwards. The tree is a beech and is canting for Schmalenbuche (Buche = beech).
