Origin/meaning

The crescent as symbol for the village is known since 1830, when it appears (horizontally) on the local seal. The seal shows the arms covered with a crown. The crescent was also used in the 19th century as the village symbol on border stones. In 1853 the mayor reports that the symbol has been for a very long time, but that its origin is not known.

When the village needed a new seal in 1900, the government of Baden proposed a blue wavy fess on a silver shield, accompanied from two black mill wheels. This was to represent the many water mills in the area since the 14th century. The municipality however, wanted the old symbol. In 1902 the arms were granted in the colours of Baden, to which the village belonged since 1444. Why the crescent was turned 90 degrees is not known. In the 1950s the Archives of Baden-Württemberg again proposed the arms of 1900, but the municipality did not want to change its arms.
