Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on June 13, 1902.
Wilster received city rights in 1282 from Count Gerhard II of Holstein. The oldest seal of the city dates from the same time and showed already in the upper half the arms of the Counts of Holstein, and in the lower half a fish in the sea. The latter symbolises the importance of fishing in the Wilsterau. The composition was placed on a shield on the 17th century seals. The composition thus did not change since, but the size and shape of the figures have changed considerably.
