The arms were officially granted on January 8, 2009.
Akademija was established in 1964, when the then Academy of Agriculture (now Lithuanian University of Agriculture) was moved there. So the green field symbolizes agriculture, the wheat ear symbolizes fertility and life, and the 8-pointed stars symbolize spiritual light, science and ideals.
