Origin/meaning
In 1282 the Margraves of Nürnberg acquired the tax rights in the village and in the 14th century they granted the town rights. The oldest seal of the town dates from 1630 and already shows the composition of the arms, but the arms as such (as a shield) appeared in the 17th century.
The arms show the quartered shield of the Hohenzollern family, as Margraves of Nürnberg. The city wall probably indicates the city itself, the origin of the chief is not known. On the seals from 1720 until the mid 19th century, the arms were shown with the helmet and crest (dog) of the Hohenzollern family as well, but otherwise the arms have not changed.
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
