Origin/meaning
These arms were officially granted on 2nd September 1986.
L'Hospitalet, the 2nd city of Catalonia according to its population, developed during the 13th century around a "hospital" (a hostel for travellers going to nearby Barcelona) in the former parish of Santa Eulàlia de Provençana; in fact, the saltire Gules on Argent (the traditional arms of the city) is the attribute of St. Eulalia, the local patron saint. The life and history of L'Hospitalet has ever been linked to Barcelona (at present, both cities are united without break in continuity), and the arms show the royal arms of Catalonia (four pales Gules on Or), which are also the arms of the counts of Barcelona.
