GROSSBURGWEDEL
State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Hannover (2001 Region Hannover) (until 1974 Burgdorf)
Incorporated into : 1974 Burgwedel
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1955 and shows in the upper half the lion of the Counts of Lüneburg to which the village historically belonged. The lower half shows five windmills, as in the 18th and 19th centuries there were 5 windmills in the village. The division line symbolises the local castle, mentioned for the first time in 1371 and destroyed in 1426.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
