JOSEPH FRANCIS MCGRATH

Born : March 3, 1871
Deceased : April 12, 1950

Bishop of Baker-City, 1919-1950

Arms of Joseph Francis McGrath

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The cross and the forearms are derived from the arms of a (non related) McGrath family and are used here as elements for the last name of the bishop. The lily-staff is that of his patron, St. Joseph, and the star indicates a devotion to Our Lady.
