WIRGES

State : Rheinland-Pfalz
District (Kreis) : Westerwaldkreis (until 1969 Unterwesterwaldkreis)
Verbandsgemeinde : Verbandsgemeinde Wirges

Wappen von Wirges/Arms (crest) of Wirges
Official blazon
German Wappen in blau mit silberner Rose, rotem Butzen und grünen Kelchblättern.
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1921 and are based on the arms of the medieval Lords of Widergis, who originated from the village. As no historical colours were known, the colours of the State of Trier were chosen, to which the village belonged for many centuries, for the rose (silver and red). The blue is the colour of Nassau, as in 1803 the village became part of the Duchy of Nassau.
