Origin/meaning

The arms show five golden ears of corn on blue, referring to the agricultural history of the village. The name goes back to Emperor Leopold I who had the village renamed. The original name was first mentioneed in 1120/36 as "Alpitowe" (later "Elpeltaw" and "Eypeltau") and is of Slavic origin, meaning "Swan village".
