Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
UETERSEN
State : Schleswig-Holstein
District (Kreis) : Pinneberg
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were adopted in 1871.
The arms were based on the seal, which was made in 1879 after the town received city rights. The arms are first known in colour in 1879. The castle shows the castle of the Knights of Barmstede, who built the castle in the 13th century. The waves show the Pinnau river. The nettle-leaf in the top of the arms is the arms of the Counts of Holstein. The small arms in the gate are the arms of the Venetian printer Aldus Manutius and probably symbolise the shipping from the town.
