Origin/meaning

The cross frefly on a red background is the symbol of St. Maurice, the patron of the ancient church of the parish, already mentioned in 1158.

In the current arms the lower half shows a rose. The combination is taken from a local banner dating from the 15th century.

The wavy bar represents the Sarine on the bank of which the territory of the municipality extends over a length of more than 5 kilometers . The fish symbolizes the fish-rich river. The fish is often seen as a barbel and thus a canting element for the Barbe- part of the name (or the old German name Barfischen).
