ARCONCIEL

Canton : Fribourg
Incorporated into : 2021 Bois-d'Amont

Armoiries de Arconciel

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms show a tower and have been used as arms of the city since 1271. In 1271 the town received city rights from Ulrich d'Arberg and these already mention the use of a city seal. Imprints of the seal have survived from 1301 and show a single tower, see below.

The city never developed properly and the arms were forgotten. Only in 1881 they were aculpted on the facade of the reconstructed church and have been used again as arms since. The historical colours are know known. The current colours are derived from the colours of the banner of the local choir from the late 19th century.
