NEUHAUSEN AM RHEINFALL
Canton : Schaffhausen
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms with the knife have been in use since 1822. The arms symbolise the importance of agriculture (viticulture and cattle breeding) for the municipality, even though the last vineyard closed in 1969.
In 1949 in the municipality started a discussion on the arms. A new proposal was made, based on an old seal, to change the arms to a silver salmon on red. This should indicate the former importance of fisheries in the village. Even though the council approved the new proposal, in a referendum the new arms were rejected. One of the issues was that the fishing rights belonged to the Allerheiligen monastery and not to the village itself, which was purely agricultural.
