Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 10, 1952.

The arms refer to the foundation of the village in medieval times. The area was part of the Diocese of Augsburg, which is symbolised by the cross, and by clearing the forest (axes) the area could be settled. During the centuries the Abbey of the Holy Cross in Augsburg became the sole landholder in the area, hence the cross and colours are taken from the arms of the Abbey. The Abbey held the land until 1803 when the area became part of Bayern.

Literature: Korhammer, 1965
