Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on November 18, 1818 and again on April 13, 1842 and on April 24, 1980.
The arms show St. Mary, patron saint of the city, and of the Sainte-Marie-d'Aix-la-Chapelle abbey, which received the village as a loan in 877 and owned it until 1332, when it became a possession of the counts of Luxembourg. The arms were already used by the city in 1696,see below.
The arms were confirmed after the Belgian independence and the municipal changes in 1977.
