Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Belgium - Belgische Gemeentewapens / Armorial de Belgique |
BOEZINGE
Province : West-Vlaanderen
Additions : 1970 Zuidschote
Incorporated into : 1977 Ieper
Official blazon
D'or, à une tête de Maure, de sable, au bandeau et pendants d'oreilles d' argent.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on February 26, 1845.
The arms show a Moor's head, derived from the legendary arms of the Testard family. The village was first mentioned in the 9th century as a possession of the Testard family. The family, who named itself after the village, ruled the village until the 14th century. Their arms are not known, however a banner is described for the family, which bore a Moor's head. From this banner the arms were derived.
The arms in the Koffie Hag/Café Hag albums +/- 1930 |
