Official blazon
German blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1956 when the town received city status.

The arms show the gate of the Cistercian monastery built by Otto Count of Ravensberg in 1231. It was destroyed in 1786. Below the gate there is a canting bridge (Brücke). The colours are taken from the colours of the arms of the Counts of Ravensberg.

Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
