Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on February 14, 1842 and again on September 3, 1987.
The arms are a combination of the patron saint (St. Mary) with a canting tree (Boom in Dutch). The combination also appeared already on the seal of the local council from 1645.
Literature: Anonymous : Van evers en heiligen - wapens en vlaggen van de gemeenten in de provincie Antwerpen. Antwerpen, 1998.
