Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 2, 1982.

The arms show in the right half the arms of the berthout family, Lords of Geel and Duffel from around 1300. The villages of Eindhout, Varendonk and Veerle historically belonged to the Geel territory. Compare also Duffel.

The left half shows two black bars taken from the arms of the Lords of Diest. These were the former arms of Vorst, see there.

Literature: Anonymous : Van evers en heiligen - wapens en vlaggen van de gemeenten in de provincie Antwerpen. Antwerpen, 1998.
