Official blazon

Al interior, en la parte superior del escudo aparece un cielo azur, mientras que la parte inferior y la parte central de los flancos se representa un campo con vegetación en sinople. En la zona central aparece el rey Fernando el Católico con brazo derecho elevado y con espada, sobre el caballo rampante que se representa en color marrón natural. El rey aparece con armadura y la silla de montar en oro, con falda de malla con sombreados de plata y sable, y espada y escudo en plata. En la parte inferior del caballo, en su zona trasera, se representa a Sebastián Fernández, palafrenero real, yaciente con pantalón en gules, chaqueta marrón y tocado blanco. A su lado aparece otra figura yaciente que posa su mano sobre la cabeza. En la parte diestra del escudo, por delante del caballo aparece un moro con turbante blanco, coraza en oro, escudo en azur, falda marrón que es atravesado por lanza. Inmediato y por encima de éste se representa un soldado castellano con casco y coraza en plata, con escudo en gules. Al timbre corona real abierta. |- |English | blazon wanted |}

The arms were officially granted on May 13, 2005.

Velez was conquered from the Moors in 1487 and received city rights and a coat of arms in September 1499, by Queen Isabella of Castille.
