History: Formed at Croydon in November 1941.

Motto: C'est en forgeant.

Origin/meaning

A Popinjay was used in olden Days for Target Practice and as the Role of this Unit was to tow Targets for Anti-Aircraft Guns this was considered a suitable Badge. The Motto translates as "Practice make perfect". The Badge was approved in March 1945.
