MONAGHAN

County : Monaghan

Coat of arms (crest) of Monaghan
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

The red hand with yellow background represents that Monaghan is part of the Irish Province of Ulster. The castle & the wall represent Monaghan Town, which was once a fortified town with walls.

The castle & wall are white, to represent the limestone stone, commonly found in Monaghan. The blue background represents Ireland, as blue is the colour of the Irish National Arms.

The blue & white together is a reminder of the Scottish Colours & so the Scottish Plantation of Ulster

The yellow bird (a martlet), represents the Rossmore Estate, an Anglo-Irish Gentry Estate, located just outside Monaghan Town.

Coat of arms (crest) of Monaghan

The arms in the Coffee Hag albums +/- 1935
