DOTNUVA

County : Kaunas
Municipality : Kėdainiai

Arms (crest) of Dotnuva
Official blazon
Lithuanian blazon wanted
English blazon wanted

Mėlyname lauke auksinė pasaginė zoomorfiniais galais segė, kurios lankelyje vaizduojama pranciškoniška virvė su trimis mazgais, o virš segės – sidabrinis kryžius.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted in 2022.

The distinctive feature of the arms is the combination of a horseshoe-shaped brooch with zoomorphic ends and a Franciscan three-knot cord. The brooch was found by the river Dotnuvėlė and dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries. Dotnuva was first mentioned in written sources at a similar time, i.e. 1372. This locality boasts a deep Franciscan tradition. The monks made a significant contribution to the history of Dotnuva. As a result, it was decided to depict the original figure on the arms, reflecting both a real archaeological find and a Franciscan attribute.
