ŠVENČIONYS
County : Vilnius
Lithuanian | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
Švencionys first received arms on April 6, 1845.
The arms showed in the upper half a knight on a horse, the symbol of the province of Vilnius, and in the base two fish facing each other. Another composition showed the knight in a corner and the fish as the main part of the shield (see below).
After the town was annexed by Poland in 1920 the arms were changes, the knight was removed and the fish were placed above each other.
After Lithuanian independence these arms were officially granted on September 16, 1992.
