WATOU

Province : West-Vlaanderen
Incorporated into : 1977 Poperinge

Arms (crest) of Watou

Official blazon

In zwart twee goiuden dwarsbalken.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 22, 1909.

The arms are those of the Van Yedegem family, who bought the Watou estate (the largest part of the later municipality) in 1608 and remained in its possession until 1793. Hence the local council applied for the use of the family arms in 1907.
