SASBACHWALDEN

State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Ortenaukreis (until 1972 Bühl)

Wappen von Sasbachwalden

Official blazon

In gespaltenem Schild vorne in Blau eine bewurzelte silberne Tanne, hinten in Silber eine blaue Weintraube mit grünem Blatt und Stängel.

Origin/meaning

The municipality was part of Sasbach until the early 19th century. The oldest seal thus dates from the early 19th century and shows the letters SW under a crown. When in 1904 the municipality wanted its own arms, the State Archives proposed arms with a silver mountain, on which a pine tree grew; around the trunk of the tree a golden crown.

The municipality, however proposed rather different arms, showing a landscape with ruin of the local Brigitteschloss (castle). The municipality used these arms in its seal from 1905 until 1949. These arms were, however, never granted.

The seal of 1905-1955

In 1949 the State Archives again proposed to change the arms, a procedure that lasted until 1955 when the present arms were adopted. The arms now show the viticulture as important economic factor and the many forests in the municipality.
