The arms were granted in 1978.
The chequered bar is a reminder of the Cistercian convent of Börstel, to which the village historically belonged. The red figure is the local border-stone ("De rohen Sulen"), which marks the former boundaries between Hahlen, Anten and the Börstel convent, after a long border dispute.
