BAD MITTERNDORF

State : Steiermark
District : Liezen
Additions : 2015 Pichl-Kainisch, Tauplitz

Wappen von Bad Mitterndorf

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 27, 1965.

The charges of the arms point to the past and the present. The bend sinister symbolizes the Salzstraße (Salt Road), which connects Aussee and the Salzkammergut to the rest of Styria. Salt from the Salzkammergut was transported on this road, as Aussee was a possession of the Dukes of Styria from the Middle Ages on. The monopoly on salt was vigorously enforced and yielded considerable sums.

The fountain symbolizes the healing waters, which have changed Mitterndorf into a Heilbad (spa). The municipality consequently changed its name into "Bad Mitterndorf".
