HEIDENHEIM AN DER BRENZ
State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Heidenheim
Additions : 1910 Schnaitheim; 1937 Mergelstetten; 1971 Oggenhausen; 1974 Großkuchen
Official blazon
(de) In Gold ein bärtiger Heidenkopf mit rotem Gewand, blauem Kragen und rotem Heidenhut mit blauer Krempe.
Origin/meaning
The arms show a canting Heiden (heathen), a symbol present already on the oldest seals of the city, known since 1486, but probably one century older. The colours are known since the roll of arms by Siebmacher (1605) and the present arms were granted in 1956. The shape of the head changed during the centuries, but the arms basically never changed.
The head has also been explained as the head of the (legendary) founder of the city, a man named Heido.
Seal from around 1900 |
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
