Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on January 9, 1914.
The arms are based on the old 17th century seal of Leichlingen. The upper part shows the lion of the Counts of Berg, as the area historically belonged to the county of Berg. The lower part shows a fish, which may be a symbol for the fisheries in the Wupper river. It may also be that the fish is taken from the arms of the Lords of Vorst, near Leichlingen, who seem to have used a fish in their arms in the 14th century. In 1416 the estate was inherited by Volkwin of Hückeswagen, who used a fish in his arms for Vorst.
