Additions : 1978 Humprechtshausen, Kleinmünster, Kleinsteinach, Kreuzthal, Mechenried
Official blazon
(de) Unter rotem Wellenschildhaupt, darin zwei schräg gekreuzte silberne Reuthauen, in Silber ein blaues Buchenblatt mit einem silbernen Schrägbalken, der mit drei blauen Ringen belegt ist
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 13, 1982.
The chief shows two axes, symbolising the name Ried- and the origin of the village; Ried is derived from Roden, which means clearing of forest. The division line symbolises the Riedbach, after which the municipality is named. The lower field shows a beech leaf, which is the symbol for the many forests in the area, especially the Kreuzthaler forest. The forest was given to the university of Würzburg in 1582 by Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn, Bishop of Würzburg and is still owned by the university. The bishop also was important in the development of the region, hence the bend with the three circles from his personal arms on the beech leaf.
