ERLENBACH AM MAIN

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Miltenberg (until 1973 Obernburg am Main)
Additions : 1976 Mechenhard; 1978 Streit

Wappen von Erlenbach am Main

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were adopted on September 2, 1953.

The arms are based on old 18th century seals of the town. The eagle obviously is the Imperial Eagle, and was probably taken as a symbol in the 18th century for the 12th century Imperial Estate, from which the town developed. To the eagle a Royal crown was added for the Prince-Bishops of Mainz, who ruled the area until 1803.
