Origin/meaning
Hünfeld received city rights in 1310 from the Abbots of Fulda. The city belonged from 781 until the mid 16th century to the Fulda Abbey.
The oldest seal dates from the 14th century and shows an abbot holding a small shield with the cross of Fulda. In the 16th century the shield was placed in front of the abbot, which was thus used as a supporter. Since the 19th century only the cross is used as arms for the city. At the same time the black cross in silver for Fulda was replaced by a silver cross in blue to distinguish the two arms.
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
