FRAMLINGHAM (Town council)

District : Suffolk Coastal

Arms (crest) of Framlingham

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ?

The six crosslet fitchy are from the arms of Sir Thomas Howard who's tomb is within St Michael's Church in Framlingham. The Lion is to acknowledge the role of Mary Tudor who heard of her accession while at Framlingham castle.

The Golden book at the base is to show the Town's connection with Framlingham college. The shapes behind the lion represent the battlements of the castle and the blue and white field behind are the colours of Coucy-le-Château-Auffrique the French town twinned with Framlingham.
