- (fr) D'azur à la baleine d'argent nageant sur une mer au naturel, surmontée de trois harpons d'or, deux en sautoir et un en pal, et accompagnée en chef d'une couronne royale d'or accostée des lettres capitales du même H à dextre et E à senestre.
Origin/meaning
The whale and harpoons indicates the former importance of whaling for the coastal towns in the area. The letters are the first and last of the name.
The royal crown refers to the passage of Louis XIV in 1654, who made Hendaye a separate municipality at the time.
