Wappen von Hellenthal

Official blazon

(de) Geteilt von Blau und Silber; oben ein silbernes Antoniuskreuz, unten ein roter Herzschild, überhöht von einem 5-lätzigen blauen Turnierkragen.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 8, 1988.

The arms are based on the previous arms and show the cross of St. Anthony for the St. Anthony Chapel in Hellenthal, built in 1520. The lower half shows the arms of the Counts of Salm-Reifferscheid, who played an important role in the history of the area.

The previous arms were not officially granted, but have been used since 1970.

Wappen von Hellenthal

TThe first quarter shows the arms of the Rheinprovince of Prussia, to which the area belonged. The second quarter shows the cross of St. Anthony, the third shows the arms of the Counts of Manderscheid-Schleiden. The fourth quarter shows the arms of the Counts of Salm-Reifferscheid, the latter two families played an important role in the history of the area.
