STOKKEM

Province : Limburg
Incorporated into : 1977 Dilsen

Wapen van Stokkem

Official blazon

Gedeeld: het eerste gefaast van goud en keel van tien stukken; het tweede, van zilver met een eikenstam van natuurlijke kleur uitgaande van een grasgrond.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 19, 1907.

The arms are a combination of the arms of the County Loon, to which the area historically belonged, and a canting tree trunk (stok).

Stokkem received city rights in 1245, and seals are known from 1468 and 1687. Both show a monument or 'perron', probably from the Diocese of Liège, to which the area belonged for many centuries. On the perron a small shield with the Loon arms is hanging. These arms were not granted in 1907, but in 1987 to the new Dilsen municipality.
