SANKT PETER-FREIENSTEIN
State : Steiermark
District : Leoben
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on 20 May, 1974.
The arms depict the keys of St. Peter and a scythe. Scythes were produced in great quantities in Upper Styria. The major part of the production was exported. Styrian scythes went even to the British colonies in North America - prior to the revolution and the wars of independence.
St. Peter-Freienstein is situated near the Erzberg (cf. Eisenerz), the most important source of iron-ore in Austria.
