OBERTHERES

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Hassberge
Additions : 1974 Horhausen
Incorporated into : 1978 Theres

Wappen von Obertheres

Official blazon

Gespalten von Rot und Gold; vorne in silbernem Dreifuß ein mit Henkeln versehener goldener Ölkessel, hinten ein steigender, blau bewehrter roter Fuchs.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 17, 1960.

The kettle is the symbol of St. Vitus, one of the patron saints of the Theres Abbey. From 1045 until 1803 the Abbey owned most of the land in the municipality.

The fox is taken from the canting arms of Abbey Gregor Fuchs, who wrote in the 18th century a chronicle of the village and rebuilt the Abbey.
