THOMAS ALBERT ANDREW BECKER

Born : December 20, 1832
Deceased : July 29, 1899

Bishop of Wilmington, 1868-1886
Bishop of Savannah, 1886-1899

Arms of Thomas Albert Andrew Becker

Official blazon

Or, a mullet argent within a bordure of the same.
Motto: Ora pro nobis

Origin/meaning

The Hebrew form of Mury is Miriam, which means a star. Therefore, this familiar symbol is frequently given to the Blessed Virgin, as in the Litany of Loreto, where she is invoked under the title of Stella Matutina, "Morning Star," a personal devotion of Bishop Becker.
