Wappen von Balingen (kreis)

Official blazon

  • (de) Unter goldenmen Schildhaupt, darin eine liegende schwarze Hirschstange, in rot eine zweitürmige silberne Burg mit offenem Tor und einem goldenen Fallgitter.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on May 25, 1928.

The arms are one of the oldest county arms in Germany. The head shows the antler of the Counts of Württemberg, who obtained the area from the Counts of (Hohen)Zollern in 1404. The castle represents the Schalksburg-castle, which was owned by the Lords of Rosenfeld, an important dynasty in the area. The colours of the lower field are the Austrian colours and represent the county Hohenberg, which became an Austrian possession in 1381.
