Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
MÜNSTER
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Darmstadt-Dieburg (until 1976 Dieburg)
Additions : 1971 Altheim
Official blazon
Ein geteilter Schild; oben in Silber zwei schwarze Balken, unten in Rot ein silberner (nicht wachsender) Schwan mit goldener Bewehrung.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1956.
The arms are a combination of the arms of the counts of Isenburg (upper part, see Neu-Isenburg) and the swan, which was the crest of the counts of Hanau. In the 17th century both families ruled over Münster. The arms are based on a seal from 1683, in which the two arms were quartered.
